Photographing Kangaroo Point – Brisbane’s best Spot.

| | ,

Kangaroo Point might just be one of the most picture-perfect spots in Brisbane City with some of the most stunning views across the city skyline. The landscape of Kangaroo Point is lined by a cliff face formed from past quarrying operations. The cliffs are now frequented by rock climbers and abseilers and the fitness enthusiasts that run through the riverside tracks and dare to scale the cliff staircase leading to spectacular views.

The Beauty of Kangaroo Point makes it one of the best spots in Brisbane for the keen landscape or cityscape photographer. The running tracks at the bottom of the cliffs offer kilometres of riverside structure to set your tripod up and capture the amazing views. There are also numerous lookout spots on the top of Kangaroo Point for a different perspective.

The Beauty of Kangaroo Point makes it one of the best spots in Brisbane for the keen landscape or cityscape photographer.

After seeing a number of posts about Kangaroo Point, I recently travelled there for the first time with the goal of capturing a blue hour cityscape picture. I arrived just before 6:00pm knowing the sunset was scheduled for 6:30pm, giving myself time to scout a few locations as I had never been before.

One thing you notice while walking along the path at Kangaroo Point is the numerous couples and groups having picnics by the water overlooking the city.

After about a 15-20 minute stroll I found a place to set up and begin capturing images. I recently had purchased a new “table top” tripod and was testing it out so my composition was low and consisted of the rock ledge, the Brisbane River and the city skyline.

Between about 6:30pm and 7:00pm I began taking photographs and watching the sunlight slowly disappear into blue hour while the lights of the buildings Start shining bright. Multiple boats would also come through the frame including the Brisbane City Cats.

Eventually, the sun had completely disappeared and the night was taking over. It was time to pack up and find a spot for dinner.

Here are some of the top reasons why I think Kangaroo Point is one of the best Photography Locations in Brisbane City.

  • Amazing views over the city.
  • Views of the Story Bridge.
  • Different prospectives ranging from the top and bottom of the cliffs.
  • Enough room along the river to find a quiet spot (even on a Friday night).
  • A changing environment with ships moving through the frame.
  • Overall an amazing Photograph is captured.
